Guide to Green

Overview

Climate change is an issue which effects all of us, essentially it is about the environment we live in and taking care of that environment.

Green Energy

One of the main culprits affecting our environment are greenhouse gases (C02), which has an impact on the climates that we live in.

The government, EEC & other nations have attempted to tackle this issue by signing up to the Kyoto Protocol - for the United Kingdom this means that carbon dioxide emissions need to be cut by 20% by the year 2010 (against 1990 levels) and a further cut of 60% by 2050.

At the time of this piece being written it looks like a very big ask for the 2010 target to be met and the government is under further pressure to tackle climate change with the ever increasing concerns over the price of oil. Kyoto is due to expire in 2012 and the world’s nations are already attempting to push these targets further (UN Climate Conferences in Bali 2007 & Denmark 2009).

Renewable Energy

Renewable energy is a way of generating power from natural resources that are naturally replenished. As we all need heat, light and energy, the introduction and use of renewable energy is one of the main components in reducing climate change.

There are several types of (ways of generating) renewable energy such as; solar power, wind power (such as wind farms) & hydro-electricity.
